Technophile WebQuest

Your Role

Your Impressions
WebQuest
Strengths
Weaknesses
Grow School Greens
Has great internet image usage. Very detailed.
Could have said less and still got the point across.
Where is My Hero?
The technology used to put this WebQuest together might not have been hard but there were a lot of quality images.

Could have been a little more detail throughout the entire WebQuest.

Underground Railroad
One of my favorites. I like how everyone has their own little role.

Could have been a little more exciting as for the format of the webquest. Did not have any pictures.

Ice Cream
Love all the pictures and exciting things jumping out at me when I get on the WebQuest.

On the evaluation I do not like how it is in a table. It is hard to read and kind of boring.

Ancient Egypt
Had exciting links.

Lacked excitement.

For Better or Worse

  1. Which two do you think were the best? Why?
  •  The two that we thought were the best were the Unraveling the Underground Railroad and Grow School Greens because they both were more detailed and got thier students more involved.
    2.    Which two do you think were worst? Why?
  •   The two that we thought were the worse were the Kings Park and the We All Scream for Ice Cream because the Kings Park was not realy usually technology. It kind of just said "here is what to look up and good luck". The We Scream for Ice Cream was pretty much teaching a human thing that I feel that everyone knows it a point.
    3.    What do best and worse me to you?
  • Best to me would be understanding facts, detailed, and good flow.
  • Worst to me would be not getting students very involved, teaching things that are already known, and have poor lack of information and creditability.

Top Ten Video

  1. This activity shows some similarities to the activities I did in K-12. For example it was in the form of a presentation. In high school it seemed like everything we did was on a presentation.
  2. Personally my learning style is not grasped in this activity. Granted this is an auditory and a little bit of visual learning and I am more of a hands on learner.
  3. I am  a little surprised that a 4th grade class put this presentation together. As a teacher I would be very interested in teaching this way.
  4. The video was great and honestly see nothing wrong with this video. It is creditable and very defined.

Blogging

  1. There are not to many things I actually like about blogging. I personally have more dislikes than likes about blogging. For example I hate how you have to get online and go through sites to get to it and etc.
  2. By keeping a blog allows someone to not only get something off your chest but it allows you to inform people, aware people, or even amuse people. For a teacher I think blogging keeps them more efficient because blogging is still grammar, spelling, and critical thinking.
  3. I honestly will not continue this blog after this class. I'm not a huge fan or blogging or typing and frankly I would never think of what to blog if Professor Richter did not assign what to blog.
  4. Transmedia Navigation.- The ability to follow the flow of information and stories across multiple modalities- I show that I can do this by looking up students stories/blogs and posting comments on them.

Wiki

  1. Wikipedia is a multilingual, Web-based encyclopedia project, operated by the Wikimedia Foundation, a nonprofit organization.
  2. There are several people that go through and tweak the information just the slightest bit over and over. Some being anonymous and some not.
  3. They trust that the public and the workers will tweak out everything.
  4. Mr. Sanger left Wikipedia, believing that it should give more authority to experts; he has since created another site, Citizendium that does just that.
  5. Idn
  6. That Wikipedia is expanding rapidly and wether some people think it is "unsafe" or not, its becoming popular and better every day.
  7. Instead of reading the information out of a text book and writing notes with a pencil. You can read the pages digitally and write your notes while having the text up looking at it.
  8. They might not want anything to draw them away from their pages.
  9. It quickly exposed examples of self-interested editing by prominent businesses and governments around the world.

Website Evaluation

I am evaluation the website Martin Luther King Jr "A True Historical Examination".

1. Who is the source of the information?
By looking at the bottom left page I can see that Newsweek Magazine published this site.

2. What are you getting?
The information that they are trying to persuade on the website I have never heard before. Example: The site quotes "I'm f***ing for god" and "I'm not a negro tonight". Everything that I have ever learned about this man contradicts these two quotes they say Martin Luther King Jr. said.

3. When was the site created?
The site was published a long time ago. It says the date of publishment was January 19, 1998 so it can not be very creditable.

4. Where?
The site has a orginzation of org. after there url and that indicates that a wide assortment of groups, including non-profit organizations created this site.

5. Why are you here?
This site is title Martin Luther King Jr. "A True Historical Examination" and yet it has links saying "Rap Lyrics" and "Try our MLK Pop Quiz". That has absolutely nothing to do with Martin Luther King Jr.

6. How can you tell whats what?
You can clearly tell that the message that was persude was not the message recieved.

11 grade Reading stats

Below is a graph of two random students of different locations and culture in the 11th grade Reading classification. As you can see, series 1 may have the highest peak but it also has the lowest peak. Therefore causing it to have more disperse answers. Series 2 is more evenly dispersed and has a more constant average than series 1. As you can see, series 2 does not have a greatly large peak or a sufficiently low peak either. The majority of the grades are on or close enough to the middle line on the graph causing it to be more leptokurtic than series 1.

America Vs Japanese Math Test Scores

The chart below shows the different math test scores throughout the American and Japanese people. According to the chart, the Japanese test scores are negative skewed and the American test score are positive skewed. I would say out of the two the Japanese scores are Leptokurtic and Americans test scores are Platykurtic. Looking at the graph the American's most concentrated distribution is between its 59% and 100%, with the Japanese scores you can see that it is pretty evenly distributed.

Media Literacy II

Quote:
"Choosing appropriate search engines, following relevant links, and judging the validity of information are
difficult challenges, not only for students of all ages, but also for most adults, including many teachers.

Reflection:

This quote explains how I felt the first couple times I tried the Internet. I have been using the Internet for a solid ten years at least and even sometimes now I do not find everything I am looking for or a site that is unreliable. I know my mother who has grew fond with the Internet still has trouble finding everything she needs on the Internet. And as time goes on it will only get harder and a lot more site, links, or search engines will be produced. Therefore, students and teachers of all ages should learn the basics and become comfortable with the Internet.

Media Literacy

Quote:

" We know that 75 Percent of American adolescents are online (US Census, 2002) and 85 percent of all Internet users expect to find key news information online (Horrigan and Raine, 2002). (Abilock, 2003) "

Reflection:

After reading this article, the quote above stuck out the most. As a future teacher I believe that teachers should be teaching more technical lessons. In a sense that every student before sixth grade should know how to use some of Microsoft Office. Not saying every student should master Microsoft by the age 12 but, having a sense of using Microsoft at a younger age will help students out a lot in the long run. The internet has such a complex usage that students should learn the risks, benifits, and knowledge of the Intenet. .

A relief or stained?

I really only have one question for this one also and it is: The caption says Obama is in relief but the title says he is being stained?

After reading the article it seems like to me that Obama really is trying to bring this oil spill together but regardless of how hard he tries, there will always be people "staining" him for what he let happen. At the same time he got a sigh of relief because over all everything could be worse. Like it says in the title, Obama ain't no Jimmy Carter.

The picture below is an amazing picture of our President. He looks determined, upset, and knows he has to do whatever it takes to make things better. This picture, in my opinion, best describes Barack's confidence in this matter.
